Portrait no. 3
24x36”, Digital Photo
from Living the Life
Living the life is about taking the language of commercials as honestly and earnestly as possible. If this is what you are telling me your product can do for me (make forget about my problems, bring my family together, perfect my home, cure my loneliness, allow me to connect with my children, let me relax, make me happy, get rid of that stench, take me to another world, make me pretty, make me smart, make me sexy, stop my stress, make mornings good, make me laugh) then okay, I am going to try to do that.

I’ve been a little quiet lately because I’ve been feverishly preparing for the first opening of The Outliers in Baltimore on March 26th, 2012. This, of course, is only the beginning of the work that I hope to continue doing throughout years to come; I’m going back to Tennessee in June to continue photographing. Words can’t even express how much this project has impacted my life, my understanding of the world, and my practice as a photographer.
I hope that if you are in/near Baltimore, you’ll join me for the opening reception - there will be some pretty delicious food and some pretty great people. The MICA Photography Department will also be announcing the next recipient of the Meyer Fellowship. I’m looking forward to that initial “Oh God” conversation that happens between current Meyer Fellow and newly minted. Last year, 2010 Fellow Kottie Gaydos told me that I was in for “one hell of a year,” and she was right.
Hope to see you there, come celebrate!

Be sure you all come see Elle’s show!!

This is the cover of my brand new 24 page Zine/Book ‘Brothers.’ It’s all about the way I view my big brother, Ronin Wood, and how I view our relationship.
It has 22 original photos shot by me (Micah E. Wood) and then 3 photos of us as children. To view a bad quality preview of the whole book CLICK HERE!
The book is $10 and if you live near my home in Virginia or live in Baltimore (where I go to school) then I can bring it to you and we won’t have to worry about shipping but if you don’t and live in the US shipping will be just $2 extra. If you live outside the US just email me and I’ll check the rates :)
If you’re interested in owning a copy I would love for your support. I just got them in so you can start ordering them by sending me an email to mwood@mica.edu or a tumblr ask or a facebook message saying you’re interested in a copy and well work out if you want me to bring it to you or shipping rates.
Thanks to all of you for the support
